I'm back!

I'm back! It is two weeks now, after the last chemo, and my energy is slowly coming back. And I have the comfort of knowing that I won't be getting zapped again next Friday, as I have been for the last 5 months, every third Friday, so I am feeling even better about that mentally! My DH is out all day Saturday taking a cooking course and after I finished the newspaper and felt at a loose end, I went upstairs and did the ironing. After that, finding myself still in my sewing room, I started looking at patterns and fabric.

I have been day dreaming about my fabrics and patterns, wondering what to do next. I have this blue acrylic fabric that, when I bought it, I thought "jumper".

The photo shows it is not very thick fabric. But I think it is entirely too busy, too "much" for a jumper. So I started thinking about a jacket or even a Spring coat.

But did I want to line it? But did I want an unlined coat? Not really.

Then I was watching "What Not To Wear" and this really short woman was being told that short, fitted jackets would suit her and I remembered the unlined, short, fitted jacket pattern that is really flattering on me. And so why not make a little jacket out of this blue stuff?

So of course, I have 2.5 metres of the stuff and therefore have enough for a skirt too. Would a skirt and jacket be "too much" like the jumper? I could always just wear them separately. Or maybe I should make a lined, Spring coat with one of the patterns I have not used before and make my mistakes (if any) using this stuff from my stash. What do you think?

Welcome back - I have missed you. I can understand why you would be happy to have those nasty old chemo treatments done.

I think all of your ideas for that pretty blue fabric are great, but I have to admit that the spring coat idea appeals to me the most.

So glad you are feeling better. With the treatment behind, you can focus on things more pleasant now.

A coat out of the blue fabric would be fabulous, and so would a jacket, worn with a white skirt or pants.

Glad your energy is back!

That short jacket would be gorgeous. A skirt would be nice too - worn separately.

Last summer I made a short jacket out of a strong blue plaid and then a skirt of the same. I ended up never being satisfied with the skirt and jacket together: too frumpy on me & I'm short. So, maybe better to use your precious energy on a long coat. No leftovers to nag at you :)

So nice to hear that you are feeling better and back to
sewing :)
I think your fabric would be gorgeous as a spring coat or a jacket/skirt outfit. (I don't think it would be "too much")For an idea of the look, check out Oscar de la Renta Fall collection - #15. (your blue fabric would look wonderful)

A structured, fitted spring coat would look fantastic in that pattern!!! Go for it! Can't wait to see the outcome! :D

Glad you're feeling better !

I'm no help in choosing a project, I like both ideas. Coat or suit, whichever you decide, will look great when it's done.

so glad you're back! We missed you! My SIL did pretty well on the cruise, it was actually pretty good medicine for her. Might be something for you to consider. Let me know if you need a travel partner!

Here's to the future!!

So good to see your post, so glad that you are back. I vote for a spring coat.

Welcome back, I missed you!

I love that fabric for a spring coat, but if you really want to get a lot of use from it, sounds like the short jacket is your way to go.

Wow you guys are amazing! All just lurking there, waiting for a post! Well, it seems the concensus is for a Spring coat and I think you are right. The jacket and skirt would be too much and I don't need yet another orphan skirt. I'll have to check my stash for lining - I am thinking white as it is too hard to match the blue. And I am thinking the Butterick pattern because I have not made it before. I would like the coat to be roomy enough so I can fit a sweater under it but if it turns out too small, it is not a crisis if I then give it away.

Glad to hear your treatments are over and you are feeling better. I vote for the spring coat as well.

Hey, you're back! Glad to see you back sewing, too. I think a coat is the order of the day-you can wear it with skirt & tops, dress or over top and pants, after all.
Have loads of fun sewing!

I think the coat is the "in" item this year! I keep seeing these spring coats in fabric like this but in black. Your blue would make an absolutely excellent coat! Go for it!

What station in "what not to wear on?"

Looking forward to the process!
