I think you have to have a serger to allow the knit to stretch properly after it has been sewn, as well as to finish the seams properly. I don't have a serger. I keep saying "one of these years I'll get a serger". But not having one allows me to go shopping for knits without feeling guilty that I'm not making the garment!
